Outlook 2010 is the latest email client developed by Microsoft to provide Outlook users an improved, more user friendly, and expedient email client. Outlook 2010 has many improved features than its previous versions like enhanced storage capacity of PST file, quick access to commonly used options, better look and feel of the software GUI, etc. However, the issue of PST corruption still exists. Outlook users still need to deal with PST corruption and data loss.

A PST file stores lots of information, such as emails, contacts, notes, drafts, calendar items, attachments, etc. Once the PST is damaged, all information stored in it will be lost. A very common reason that leads to the damage of PST file is exceeding maximum file size limit. Here, you might be thinking that default PST size limit in Outlook 2010 is 50 GB and crossing such a big storage limit is not an easy task. Then how PST can be damaged? Well, as the size of PST file grows, Outlook starts giving long pauses whenever you perform any operation like sending / receiving emails, deleting emails, etc.

The pauses keep on increasing as the file grows. When the PST file reaches around 4 GB, Outlook starts hanging whenever you perform an email related operation. When Outlook gets hanged, you need to abruptly close the application, which may sometimes lead into the damage of the PST file. Other factors due to which the PST file can be damaged are – virus infection, software malfunctioning, headers corruption, etc. Corruption in the PST file means the loss of valuable data stored in the PST file. Once the PST is damaged, you need to repair PST file in order to get the lost emails, contacts, notes, drafts, calendar items, etc. back.

Microsoft provides a built-in tool to repair PST file that has got damaged. That tool is known as scanpst.exe. The tool gets automatically installed in your computer when you install MS Outlook but you cannot see this tool in Windows start program menu. You need to find this tool to repair PST file. To find the tool, just type scanpst.exe in the Windows Search bar and within few seconds you will see the tool listed in the right panel of the Windows search screen.

Double-click the scanpst.exe tool, browse the damaged .pst file, and let the software do its work. Once the software has finished its work, you will be having repaired PST in your hand. However, in case the scanpst.exe gets failed to repair PST file, then you should use Repair PST Tool.

The software quickly scans the damaged PST, repairs the PST file, and provides you all recovered items with full accuracy.
