For millions of those living in the UK high energy costs for heating have led them to look at additional options other than traditional utilities for their homes. Millions of people have chosen to harness the power of the sun for their heating, and are reaping the benefits on their utility bill. For those people, they have chosen to use their solar panels for solar hot water, space heating, or even pool heaters. These systems save energy, reduce the cost of utilities and are easier on the environment.

Over the past few years efficiency and productivity of solar heating systems have dramatically increased along with the price, making them affordable options for homes. Over the past 10 years the price for solar panels has dropped by more than half, and with government incentives for those who purchase solar heating now is a better time than ever to invest in solar heating.

Current research and development on solar heating systems have shown them to be as effective as ever, and as progress continues soon these systems will be more efficient than traditional methods for heating. Even with a small set of panels the average home can afford solar heating for just a fraction of the cost of traditional heating. Even in the past 10 years durability of the materials required for solar heating has increased, so buyers know that the solar heating system they are installing will last for a very long time.

But what options does one have when it comes to solar heating? One option is solar water heating. This harnesses the power of the sun through solar panels to heat the water going into a home. Research has shown that when these systems (such as active and passively solar heated water systems) are installed the dependency on conventional water heating methods decreases by 2/3. Translate that to one's water heating bill and that can mean big savings.

With
solar heating the water of the home, one can also rely on solar energy for other parts of their residence, such as solar space heating. These systems collect the outside heat through panels and transfer them to inside the residence. In addition they can be regulated so that a space is never too cold or never too hot for one's taste. This can come in handy as winter time bills for traditional heating methods can be almost halved by solar energy.
