The first line of defense for your home are your exterior doors. Yet they are vulnerable to burglars unless a simple step is taken to upgrade your door security.
The number one way that most burglars will gain entry into a home is through the front, back or garage doors. An experienced robber knows that the garage door is usually the easiest point of entry followed by the back door. This is because either of these doors provide the most cover from the road and neighbors. It is easy for a thief to gain entry into your home by a simple kick or “shoulder slam”.
FBI statistics show 73% of all breaking and entering is from door-frame failure. What is it about entryway doors that make them so easy for a burglar to gain easy access into a home or office? Open your front door and take a look at the door-frame; more specifically the deadbolt and strike plates. This is the weakest part of your door. There is less than an inch of softwood securing the safety of your home.
The problem isn't the exterior door, hinges, deadbolt or locks. These items are all pretty strong in and of themselves. It's the door-frame (a.k.a door jamb or door casing) that is the weakest area. Door jambs are most often manufactured from softwood trees such as Pine, Spruce and Fir. These types of wood can not stand up to the force of a half inch to three-quarter inch solid steel deadbolt stem being massively forced against them. This is what happens when a door is being kicked or shoulder slammed. In addition, standard door hinges and strike plates on most homes use only 1/2" or 3/4" long screws which do not give much if any reinforcement to the door-frame. You can easily see for yourself by removing one and measuring it.
How then do you make an exterior doorway more secure? Simply put, entry door-jambs and hinges must be fortified. The most efficient and cost effective solution is to install a metal door-frame reinforcement device that extends well above and below the strike plates. It should be secured with multiple extra-long, high strength, large diameter screws that burrow deep into the wall studs. What this does is to replace the small weak strike plate with something that is much stronger.
A good example of a door-casing reinforcement product is the Door Devil Anti-kick Door Security device. Three important and unique features distinguish this product as way out in front of its competitors. Those distinctive and useful features are strength, ease of installation and guarantee. Let's discuss each one of those features:
1) Each Door Devil kit comes complete with everything you will need to reinforce one standard-size entry door. The kit includes a 48" steel door-frame reinforcement security unit, 3.5" heavy-duty screws, window decals and a yard sign to announce to any would-be burglar that your home is anti kick-in fortified. The device is also engineered with a unique 45 degree edge making it possible to withstand greater kick force while also making the door easier to close after the product has been installed.
2) Installs easily directly onto the existing door-jamb. You will not be required to dismantle the casing or hardware. The kit also comes with the correct drill bit to make the door security upgrade quick and easy. Typical installation is under 30 minutes per kit.
3) Door Devil comes with a 3x anti kick-in guarantee. No door security product will to stop a determined thief, however, Door Devil has been so rigorously tested, that the manufacturers will refund triple the purchase price if their product is ever defeated. You will be hard pressed to find another door security product that carries such a guarantee.
