What is an alternative down blanket and why have they become so popular? Aside from the fact that this warm blanket will keep you from shivering on those cold winter nights, it is great for those who have allergies to more traditional goose down blankets. And an alternative blanket is going to be just as soft, cuddly, and comfortable as a real goose down one.
Selecting an Alterative Down Blanket

The most popular alternative is silk filler. Silk is hypoallergenic and in addition to that, it is resistant to dust mites. Dust mites, if you are not aware, are one of the most common causes of allergies in your home. Blankets made from silk will need to be dry cleaned. Now, they are not quite as expensive as goose down, but they are pretty close.

Wool makes an exceptional filler for your down blankets. Wool is very warm and keeps the blanket light in weight. You could also opt for a synthetic down. Synthetic materials make a warm blanket as well and it will be light weight. The downside of synthetic as compared to wool, silk, or goose is that it is not going to be as durable over the long run.

Those on a budget but still seeking luxury warmth should consider polyester as an alternative. Polyester is popular because it is warm, lightweight, and is machine washable. Therefore it is not going to incur you additional charges over its life. The only downside is that they are not as warm as a genuine down blanket.

For those that are severely allergic, you can choose a certified allergy-free blanket. They come as close as you can get to matching a goose down blanket in both comfort and price.

As you can see, there are plenty of choices available to you and the best thing is to get out there and find which works for you.
