In today's fast paced world anything is possible due to the introduction new technologies. While in one hand it has enhanced our capabilities, still at some fronts, we are facing few limitations. Like, peoples who are using MS-Outlook 2002 and earlier versions have a file size limitation of 2 GB. Other users using the same software but the version is upgraded like MS-Outlook 2007, the file size is different. But due to small size, MS-Outlook 2002 users face problems like no new or more data can be added to the PST file when these files reach the maximum size. This behavior leads to email inaccessibility and your valuable data loss. Also the Outlook PST files gets corrupt and starts showing abrupt symptoms. In this state, an updated backup of the old PST files becomes a great help. However, if not available then you left only with a third party pst file splitter software.

To further classify this issue let's take an example of MS-Outlook 2000. The size limit of the Outlook 2000 is up to 2GB. If the PST file crosses the size you receive an error message same as given below:

“The file file_name has reached its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer need, then permanently (shift + del) delete them.”

On getting this message, you will become unable to add new data in the PST file of the MS-Outlook 2000. As the PST file approaches or reaches beyond the 1.82 GB size the PST file gets corrupt and becomes unable to add any new-data.

Causes:

The root cause behind the above error message is exceeding the PST file size that is more than 1.82 GB.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error message you need to follow below steps. If error message still blinks on the system screen after performing below methods. Then use a third party Outlook PST File Splitter utility.

    1. If the backup is available then use it. Make a new Outlook PST file and start importing data from the original PST.

    2. Other option can also help you to get over the above error message. Select the messages you have read or you don't need any longer, delete them .

    3. Empty the folders of the MS-Outlook by permanently deleting the folders by shift+del command.

If the space is still not available after doing the above steps, you are unable to add more data in Outlook PST file. Then choose a third party Outlook Split PST File that splits large PST file into small PST files. You can easily add more data in the Outlook PST file that was previously creating problem.
