We all want 20/20 vision; however, not all of us take extra care to protect our eyes from degeneration. We may not have the perfect vision that we aim for, but there are ways to halt total deterioration of our eyesight if we follow the tips below.
If you are one of those many people who are afraid of the dark, this one is for you. Why did I mention darkness? Because I’m going to talk about the eyes. Your eyes are as important to you as the other members of your body. So here are tips on how you can keep those eyes of yours healthy and in good condition all the time.
Vitamin A is always on top of the list when you talk about eye care. That’s because vitamin A is needed by your retina for it to function properly. So if don’t want to acquire eye conditions such as cataract and night blindness, include as much vitamin A rich food in your diet as possible. You can choose from a wide range of fruits and veggies such as carrots, tomatoes, and even sweet pepper.
You wouldn’t want to forget what your teacher used to tell you back in primary school, that green and leafy vegetables make you really strong and healthy. Spinach and leaf lettuce are good examples of these. No wonder Popeye the sailorman loves his spinach so much. These greens are rich in zeaxanthin, lutein and beta-carotene that are really beneficial to the eyes.
Other than fruits, vegetables and peas, seafood are also good sources of minerals that help improve eyesight. Fish such as salmon, mackerel and tuna are rich in vitamin D. Nuts rich in Vitamin E such as hazelnuts and almonds are healthy for the eyes too. These vitamin-rich foods lower your risk for several eye conditions such as macular degeneration and cataract.
If you think that only certain parts of the body like the arms, legs, and arms need exercise, you’re totally wrong. Your eyes are also like muscles that need to be exercised as well. By exercising your eye muscles, you actually minimize eyestrains, thus keeping it healthy.
In everything that we do, moderation is always the key, and this is the same way when talking about your eyes. Avoid straining them to keep them in perfect condition. If possible limit your television watching and internet surfing to 2 hours a day to give your eyes the right amount of rest that it needs.
