Although it's only just Autumn and winter may seem a long way away, now is the time to get booking your skiing holidays. If you're a novice to the ski holiday scramble, you'll need to do your research first.
The sun may still occasionally be shining, and snow may still seem distant, but now is the time to start booking your skiing holidays. In fact, if you’re particularly picky about where you go, where you stay and who teaches you, you may have already missed the boat.

Yes indeed, some people book their skiing holidays during the summer, keen to get exactly the right accommodation at exactly the right resort with exactly the right teacher and exactly the right equipment. And if it’s your first ski holiday that you’re booking now, you may well have missed the boat as you’ll have more research to do to find out what you want.

That’s not to say you won’t get anywhere, but you may have to compromise a little bit, particularly if you’re after a luxury skiing holiday. Bargain skiing holidays are of course, easier to come by, it’s simple economic principles (higher demand means higher supply means lower cost).

For veterans of the ski holiday scene, you’ll know exactly what to do. Make that call to your favourite ski travel agency, or call direct to your regular independent chalet in Morzine or wherever it is that you go. But for novices to the scramble for skiing holidays, here’s some advice.

Do your research. This is the most important thing. Whether you spend hours on the internet or speak to a specialist at a ski travel agency, finding the right resort is imperative to the enjoyment of your skiing holiday. As with any holiday destination, ski resorts have inherently different characters. Over and above this though, ski resorts are also more or less suitable to particular skill levels due to the natural shape of the mountainsides they sit on. If you’re new to skiing, it’s important to find easier slopes and a good ski school. If you’re a capable skier, you’ll want to find somewhere more advanced with more challenging runs to keep you entertained.

Preparation is key. Book everything you can in advance. This includes ski passes, equipment hire and lessons. The more you book in advance, the less you have to do when you’re there, and the more you can just enjoy your skiing holiday. After all, it is meant to be a holiday right? Minimise the errands you have to do once there.

The skiing holidays season is upon us. Whether you’re after a luxury ski holiday, a bargain ski holiday, or just somewhere to slide down a mountain, get in now to get what you want.
