Classic film t shirts are making a huge comeback as the buying public veers away from the modern and looks to the old school. They make you feel like those film divas and actors.
Anyone who’s fed up with the indentikit look of modern t shirts will be happy to know that a small revolution has started on the Internet. The web, which is of course home to underground movements, subversion and so on, makes buying original clothes a lot easier than it used to be – with the result that people who have had enough of wandering around in ridiculous looking tees plastered with oversize versions of a company logo, can rock a proper classic look with film t shirts, music t shirts and old school TV t shirts.
These aren’t film tees that just reproduce poster art or rip off old promo material, either. They feature brand new designs inspired by awesome old movies – iconic flicks from the 60s, 70s and 80s that live not only in the memories of people who were around to see them when they first came out, but in the cultural consciousness of the western worlds. Classic quotes and film inspired images make these tees completely original – a welcome relief after the onslaught of indistinguishably boring modern stuff we’ve been forced to endure for the last couple of years.
Judging by the number of sites selling film t shirts already, there’s a huge market for this kind of retro inspired cool. People, it seems, are no longer willing to buy into the idea that modern stuff is automatically good. They’re seeking a bit more originality; a bit more individuality; and a bit of reminder of those picture postcard days of their youth, when everything moved a bit slower and classic films were still being made. Ultimately, the move towards old school fashion reflects this kind of sentiment: who, after all, is going to remember any movie made this year? The popularity and availability of film t shirts is a simple acknowledgement that things were cooler when they were driven by story line, acting and proper directing rather than explosions and computer generated monsters.
So where does a person go for some of this retro active cool? There are hundreds of sites selling film tees, after all, but only a few with really original designs. UK based My Icon Art has a good range – its tees are own-designed, heavily oriented towards major classics, and printed on high quality t shirt material that’s guaranteed to look good and last well.
The only choice left, then, is which film tee to buy. Naturally, a person is going to want to wear a film t shirt that references a film he or she is fond of – and using sites like My Icon Art isn’t going to disappoint. From legendary rock movies and war movies to old Westerns and some particularly famous space based movies, these modern old school film t shirts have it all. Oh, and there are some pretty funky ones referring to a certain mid 80s movie about dancing?
Get those threads out, then, people, and thumb your collective noses at the boring, garish stuff modern t shirt companies have been piling out for years. It’s time to go back to the old school.
