Most of us have come to depend on the televisions for entertainment and keeping up with the latest news. So when there is trouble with the picture or the sound it really ruins our evening.

There is nothing worse than sitting down to relax in front of the television with your favourite program about to air only to find that there seems to be a problem with the TV. Maybe the picture dissolved into a whining mess full of static after five minutes, or perhaps it will not come on at all. Or maybe the picture jumps up and down and the sound fades into nothing.

Many weird things will happen to your TV if there are cracked solder connections. Some people like to try and fix this problem themselves, especially if the TV is out of warranty. It is possible for the home handyman to carefully take the television apart and re-solder these connections. With this kind of tv repair, many times the problem is solved and the TV lasts for many years; a great saving on the budget.

But unless you know what you are doing it is possible to crack or break something else, even if the soldering is successful. Or you may get curious about something else and try to pull it apart and loosen or break an underlying part you didn’t know was there. Most TV repairs should be left to the professional to attend to.

Sony repairs may be simple or more complicated, requiring someone who has had training and experience in maintaining Sony televisions. And of course, if the TV is still under warranty, there is no point in trying to do it yourself and perhaps making the problem even worse. In any case, rather than being a problem with the TV, it could be a problem with the antenna, set top box or anything else that may be plugged into the television.

However, if the television set is old and out of warranty, you could perhaps save quite a bit by taking a free online course in TV maintenance and then attempting repairs yourself. Naturally, you would remember to turn it off and unplug from the wall before doing anything else.
