Ceramic Ferrite Magnets Are a Popular Magnetic Choice

Ceramic ferrite magnets which are sometimes referred to as either ceramic magnets, ferrite magnets or ceramic ferrite magnets are one of the most popular types of magnets produced.  The popularity of these magnets is due to their affordability and longevity. The materials required to manufacture ceramic ferrite magnets are easily available at low costs, and these magnets keep their magnetic qualities for a long period of time (which is why they are known as a permanent magnet), making them ideal to be used in a number of industries, at work, at home and in your garage or shop. 

Ceramic ferrite magnets are made from a chemical compound containing ceramic and iron oxide.  They are made from pressing and sintering mixtures of ceramic and magnetic powders. The result is a hard, brittle magnet.  Sintering is a method that is used to make objects from powder.  The sintering process is completed by heating the materials in a furnace (but not to their melting point) until the particles of powder stick to each other.  The advantages of the sintering process include:

The two main types of ceramic ferrite magnets are known as soft ferrites and hard ferrites, however the terms ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ in these names are misleading.  The difference between hard and soft ferrite actually is in the intensity of the magnetic field required to demagnetize the material, not in the density of the material as the name suggests.  Hard ferrite needs a more intensive magnetic field than soft ferrite.
