making dough from scratch, but it is well worth the effort. Even though it
won't cook as fast if you don't have a wood burning pizza oven, and it may lack
the rustic burnt taste—the results can still be absolutely astonishing.
So this article will teach you how
to make a perfect pizza dough, with a simple recipe; and we'll also give you a
coveted recipe for a tasty Baked Potato Pizza. This pizza recipe is done
different in various states. New York
has it's own variation of this recipe, as well as restaurants in Texas or Florida—but we'll be
focusing on the fresh California
style baked potato pizza. And the best part, it can be cooked in a conventional
oven if you don't have a wood burning pizza oven! So get ready for a tasty
recipe.
Here's what you'll need for the Dough:
-1 tablespoon active dry yeast (or
substitute for 1oz of brewer's yeast)
-1 cup of warm water
-3 cups of flour
-1 ½ tablespoon of extra-virgin
olive oil
-a pinch of salt
-a pinch of sugar
In a small bowl—put some of the
yeast in the warm water you've measured. Do some light stirring until all the
yeast has dissolved in the water. Set it aside for about 6-7 minutes. While
waiting, get a large bowl—pour the flour in the bowl. Make a hole in the center
of the flour—when this is finished, pour the yeast and water mix in that hole;
and then add the olive oil, salt and sugar.
Go ahead and mix the whole mix with
a wooden spoon—once a general consistency of dough forms—its time for the most
fun part—kneading. Begin to work the dough with your hands. You can do this
right on your countertop just be sure to make sure that there is extra flour
placed beneath the dough you knead to avoid any small pieces sticking to your
hands or the counter. Continue to do this until the dough has the perfect
consistency. Attempt to tear it—you should be able to pull quite far before the
dough tears. This is a perfect test to know whether its ready for the wood
burning pizza oven or conventional oven.
However—before you can bake the dough—place it in a bowl, and cover it with a
towl…you'll need to let the dough sit for about 45 minutes to an hour to let the
yeast rise and the dough expand. This is a perfect time to preheat your oven or
start burning the wood in your wood burning pizza oven.
Now—for the toppings for your pizza
here's what you'll need:
-2 baked potatoes
-Sour Cream
-Bacon Bits (pre cooked)
-Green onions
-Cheese (whatever you like)
-Marinara Sauce…
First start by skinning the
potatoes, and cutting them to small pieces, at this point your pizza dough
should be finished. So use a rolling pin to make the dough into a circular
disk. You can then top it—and put it in your conventional oven for 25 minutes
or your wood burning pizza oven for about 15 minutes.
Enjoy your perfectly cooked Baked
Potato Pizza!
