Today, Philanthropy is the buzzword
amongst the elite as well as the young generation for most of the
elite class wishes to participated in activities which work for the
betterment of the society. With an upsurge in philanthropic funds
pouring worldwide, management and proper utilization of these funds
becomes equally important and essential.
It comes as no surprise that more and
more philanthropic trusts required well trained and skilled people to
handle these funds and carry out the activities in attaining the
desired results. It is equally important to bear in mind that these
activities are carried out on a large scale and require in depth
planning and organizational skills.
Keeping in mind the varied and complex
activities of philanthropic trust, it becomes essential to engage
people who are trained for managing and organizing such activities.
Therefore many trusts take it upon themselves to rope in the young
generation and provide them with suitable training and opportunities
in order to shape them as future leaders.
Future Leaders in Philanthropy
project (FLIP) is a joint venture between CREDIT SUISSE and the
BONITA TRUST. Through FLIP project student residents of Gibraltar are
given the opportunity to train and develop themselves as future
leaders of their community. FLIP project is open to children between
ages of 16 – 19 years.
FLIP is a 3 year initiative which aims
at highlighting the importance and value of philanthropic gift giving
activities. It also imparts them training on how to manage charitable
funds and other social initiatives. During the course of FLIP
training the students will be required to work on a number of
charitable projects and even manage them financially. These students
will be required to conduct charity research, set up and manage a 3
year virtual charity investment portfolio under the guidance of a
financial mentor.
Pre-requisites for students who are
interested in participating in the FLIP project –
Should be a resident of Gibraltar
with 16 – 17 years in age
Should have just attempted the
GCSE Examination in Gibraltar
Achieved at least 5 “A”s in
your GCSEs
Interested candidates satisfying these
criteria can keep a look out for the launch date of the project which
is generally done in the month of January each year. In all, 20
students will be selected and they will receive training during the
Years 12 & 13 of school and Year 1 of university.
As per the requirements, the FLIP
participants will be trained in fund raising activities and will
raise a pre determined amount of funds for local charities. The same
amount of funds will be donated by Bonita Trust as well. The Credit
Suisse will provide a practical education programme which will teach
the students on investment and management strategies of charities and
their funds. Combined with apt financial acumen and management
skills, FLIP participants will definitely be groomed to better
financial manager of charities. The FLIP participants will receive
financial incentives and gifts during the course of the 3 year FLIP
training.
It is through these initiatives that
young and interested students can receive suitable and valuable
training in philanthropy to become expert and best manager of
charities and their funds.
