Modern wooden sash windows merge style with efficiency to make modern homes as good looking as older ones.
There
was a time when wooden sash windows
were on every house in every street. They looked gorgeous – with their open
panes allowing great chunks of natural light into living rooms and bedrooms all
over the country. The only problem was that the sash tended to rot out, leaving
home owners with a window they couldn’t open for fear it would come crashing
down and half sever all their fingers. Eventually, old style sashes were either
removed or replaced with ugly (but more heat efficient) double glazed plastic
things; or subjected to the ultimate indignity of being painted over and left
sealed shut forever.
Modern
wooden sash windows, which are
making a big splash on both the new build and renovation markets, have managed
to resurrect the wonderful style of the original sashes without any of their
problems. The modern sash is double glazed to an extraordinarily high degree of
efficiency, allowing sash owners to save on their heating bills in the winter
and remain cool during the summer. The frames are treated with all sorts of
anti bacterial agents, anti mould preparation and weather proofing, which makes
the windows last for years: and the whole unit, in some cases, can be fitted
into an existing window hole, like a replacement, which means installation
presents minimum impact even on inhabited houses.
Wooden sash windows
are ideal for ventilation and lighting. The sash is capable of bringing in a
much greater quantity of fresh air than a normal double glazed window – so in
the summer, when the scents of the warm air and the neighbouring gardens are
flying, the home owner can let a little of the outdoors in without having to
worry that that old drop and break problem will cut in on his or her peaceful
little reverie. The wood used is of the highest quality, milled and finished
for an effect that can be tweaked into classic or modern, according to
preference. In either case, the wooden
sash windows are an arresting finish to the interior and exterior of any
home, able to conform equally well with the classic appearance of an older home
or the contemporary look of a modern one.
The
ease of cleaning the sash windows is yet another plus point. With some modern
sashes completely removable (there’s a funky sort of special clip thing in the
frame that means the entire pane can be easily removed) a window cleaner’s
services may no longer be necessary. The active home owner can simply remove
the panes, clean them front and back and then clip them back in. And they still get the best energy rating around.
Modern
wooden sash windows are an excellent
compromise between style and efficiency: in fact, they’re not even a compromise
so much as a success. They’ve resurrected the style of the good looking older
houses and merged it perfectly with the energy saving and heat conserving
qualities of modern glass work. Fitted to any style of home, they work wonders
for the spirit and the heating bill – and that makes them an out and out
success.
