You can never take away the fact that if you have two or more children, sibling rivalry would occur. For children, attention is everything and if they don't have it but the baby does then you'd surely have problems with it. Read this article for more information about it.
Sibling rivalry is a worldwide phenomenon and history of sibling rivalry goes back to Adams and Eve’s era. There have been many historical stories about sibling rivalry and many movies have also been made highlighting this issue.

Sibling rivalry is the feeling of dislike and loathe among the siblings, there can be various reasons for it but all of them usually start from home. Parents should keep a keen eye right from the beginning and look for the signs of sibling rivalry among their children.

Usually the rivalry starts with the arrival of new baby, before that baby the first born was the only claimer of all the attention and captive of the territory but when the second child arrives it looks like a threat to him.  It is very important to make the child ready for the new comer and develop the positive enthusiasm in your child so he can welcome the second child open heartedly.

It is usually seen that children who have less age difference and are of same gender develop the dislike for each other and it becomes very evident in the behavior.

If you are caring the youngest child for the reason that he is less mature, then others will feel left out. Children radars are very sensitive about love and affection and they feel if they are loved less.

Sometimes, when a child is gifted, he has good looks or more IQ but not every child can have these qualities. Therefore, the parents should never compare the abilities of their children especially in front of them. It can also become a reason of onset of sibling rivalry.

The best way to avoid sibling rivalry is to make children sort out their differences on their own in a polite and cultured manner.  As a parent, you should never attempt to pick sides. The more the rivalry among the children will intensify. Your role should be neutral to all and even, if it is not, then you should act as neutral.
