Stories of the Spirits in Britain

In many movies such The Lord of Ring we can see some spirits appear on the screen. Do you know that each of them has their own stories? Let’s have a look at the stories of these non-human creatures.

1.      Goblin

The Goblin is the name for goblins and redcaps. They are neither big nor tall. The goblins like to play tricks on people, sometimes causing trouble. They live in dark places. It is said that their smile will make your blood freeze, make the milk go sour, and make the fruits fall down. But generally they will not cause serious trouble. Most of them are not vicious. What they do is usually playing tricks on people that make people get angry, such as making people have nightmare.

However, not all of the goblins are harmless. Some of them are really dangerous, such as the redcaps. But when you meet with them, don’t panic. All you need to do is recite scriptures to them, and they will run away from you as soon as they can.

In general the goblins are 50cm tall. Even if you are very kind to them, they will still play tricks on you.

2.      Pixie

The pixie is also written as “pixy”. They are little creatures with red hair and round noses. The pixies are generally 30cm tall and appear at the south west of Britain. There is a belief that the pixies came to England with the Phoenicians. But some people think that the pixies are the earliest habitant of England. During the Roman Conquered time, another kind of spirits came into England, which was called Faerie, and the pixies were the first people to welcome them. But latter the pixies worried that their homeland should be grabbed by the Faeries and finally a war broke out between the pixies and the Faeries. The war continued until the Faerie claimed to move out of the place.

In fact those pixies are not bigger than a man’s hand and, what’s more, they can change their sizes on their own willing. There is always a smile on their faces and often wear green clothes. If you meet someone who has red hair and green eyes they may be the avatar of a pixie. At night they will play some tricks at human such as putting out the lightening fire.
