Anglers are forever searching for new bass fishing tips, tricks or bait to help them with catching even more bass.
Anglers are forever searching for new bass fishing tips, tricks or bait to help them with catching even more bass. However, sometimes in these searches for the newest, latest and greatest products out there, some reliable old standbys are forgotten. One of these old standbys is likely right in front of you, sitting quietly amongst your other fishing gear. The easy to use Rat-L- Trap is not only a lure that almost all fishermen have used but it is one of the most basic and consistent lures you can find.

Out of all of the new innovations in the fishing industry, the Rat-L-Trap remains the top selling lure in all of America. For many years, these lures have proven themselves an extremely reliable method of catching bass and other species of fish.

These lures can be utilized in multiple ways. The typical cast out and reel in method is likely the most common approach to these lures. This method is simply comprised of casting your line while quickly reeling it back in. It is while you are reeling in the line that you are hoping to catch the attention of a hungry fish.

If this is the method you are using and it isn’t looking like it is attracting any fish, try to slow down the process a bit so that the lure can sink a little deeper. Many times just slowing it down increases the number of bites immediately.

You can also try casting out your lure so that it falls to the bottom of the lake. Once you feel it touch the bottom, lip up on your fishing reel about a foot or two and then hold it there. This will cause the bait to look as if it is fluttering around as it sinks, mimicking natural prey.

Rat-L-Traps can be purchased in a variety of many different sizes, styles and colors. Some of these lures are sparkly and shiny while others of the same variety can come with plastic bills or spinners to enable them to travel deeper. Some Rat-L-Traps are even made specifically to float or remain suspended. With all of the varieties that these lures are available in, this can make choosing just one rather overwhelming. If you find yourself in this scenario always remember to stick with the standard chrome one that is half of an ounce. Choose your lure with either a black or a gold back to it as this will be perfect for reflecting the sun and catching the attention of the fish.
