One of the most lucrative advertising ploys a company can get is by cementing sponsorship deals with leading organisations in any given field. NASCAR, for instance, is wildly popular in the USA and it is a sure fire advertising gold mine for any company willing to sponsor either the entire event itself, or cars in the event. Other sporting gold mines are the Olympics, Football (Soccer to North American Readers), Hockey, Bicycling, Track & Field, and any other major sports event. Football is probably the most popular sport on the planet.
Every country in the world has football teams from Canada to England to
India and back again. Umbro has been, since its inception, a very
football oriented company. Most of their shoes and other sporting gear
are football specific and as such, they are an excellent choice for the
FA (Football Association) to make as their official sporting goods
company. While Puma, Adidas, and Nike all make equipment and shoes for
football, Umbro is the leader in this type of product. What may be
surprising, though, is that the FA has extended its sponsorship
contract with Umbro until at least 2018. It’s not often that a contract
is signed for this long, and speaks volumes about the quality of
Umbro’s product and brand within the football world.
Umbro
will be supplying all 23 of England’s FA football teams with a gear
kit. In addition to this, they will be providing free Umbro kits and
equipment to amateur teams every single year to support the FA
Chartered Standard Clubs programme, to the tune of 4000 units per year.
That’s a huge commitment, but that isn’t even all that Umbro is doing
in their partnership with the FA. They will also be investing in 3000
County FA courses each year of their deal with the FA which will, in
turn, train approximately 60,000 coaches, players, and referees each
year.
Not only are Umbro in their field to make money, but they
are clearly interested in sowing the seeds of interest in football for
future generations. The new kit Umbro designed to incorporate the
traditional St. George’s cross symbol for England’s football team was
launched on the third of September this year during England’s Euro 2010
qualifying match against Bulgaria. You probably already saw the new
gear during this game, and be on the lookout for new stuff in the
future. Umbro is your football choice.
