For over half a century, Puma has been at the forefront of the shoe game. With their outstanding understanding of the needs of athletes for foot support and how the foot works in relation to needing that same support, they have remained one of the leading sports shoe experts. In addition to exceptional R&D, they also make a quality shoe that lasts – something that is hard to find these days with all our throw away garments. Puma started out in 1948 and have been going strong since.
Their first sports shoe was a trainer that was specifically designed
for soccer players. It was called the Atom. Just 4 years later, Puma
released the Super Atom, the world’s first rotary screw football
trainer. Rotary screw technology is a technology that is used in
football shoes even to this day. Puma was gaining ground in the first
decade in the sports shoe market and a decade after they introduced the
Atom, they introduced their signature Puma formstrip. The Puma
formstrip are those three lines along the sides of all Puma shoes that
contour to the shape of the shoe. Like the Nike and Adidas logos, the
Puma formstrip is the first indication that you’re looking at a Puma
shoe.
Over the years, many great athletes have gone on to
victory on the wings of a Puma shoe. These include, from 1954 to today,
100m world records in Japan; Soccer World Cups, most famously worn by
Pele; tennis stars, including Martine Navratilova. Linford Christie,
Marlene Otti, and several others all won gold medals for track and
field while wearing Puma gear, shoes included.
This year,
Puma
is 62 years old, and to commemorate 60 years at the top of their game,
they are launching the Puma60 series. Each of these shoes and their
accompanying accessories are designed to pay homage to each decade that
Puma has been in existence. The shoe and accessories from the 60s, for
instance, is clearly inspired by those that Puma put out in that
decade. At the very least, check out each of these series and help Puma
celebrate 60 years of sports excellence.
