The topic of "dwarfism" usually stays in the spotlight, mainly due to the issue of how such people should be termed as. Even though dwarfism seems to be the most frequently used term, some people may like the idea of simply being called as the "ones with short stature" instead of being known as "dwarfs".
This is a condition that results in a halt to one’s height. Children who acquire this condition remain of short heights, while the causes of why this condition occurs in the first place are numerous. Some of the most important ones are known to be the child’s genetics, a genetic mutation that must have taken place, disorders related to the child’s hormones, and abnormalities of chromosomes or the pituitary gland.
Out of the few types of dwarfism that exist, achondroplasia is known to be the most common and most frequently occurring type. This happens when the parents of the child are average in heaight. This reason makes up to 85% of all the achondroplasia cases that occur.
Once such a child begins to grow up, he or she may start suffering from a few other issues which include being susceptible to ear infections, breathing problems, problems with motor skills development and severe pain in the legs or back.
People who have this condition usually have to face a number of societal pressures and discrimination, as most people consider them to be incompetent and not as skilled as the other members of the society. Furthermore, people believe that they also lack intellectual ability, which is not true.
These are false beliefs, as being of a small height is not related in any way with lacking intellect. Dwarfism is also not a deadly disease, which would require treatment and cure to be controlled. A person who has this condition can live as long as any other individual, without requiring treatment.
