1. A huge mistake people make is to put in writing 500 words simply describing how "cool" something is then throw a sales pitch within the resource box. Nobody wants to scan these ramblings of self promotion. Keep in mind, these articles are meant to be journalistic and not the kind of writing you would browse on a personal blog. While your enthusiasm might be admirable, it is not the manner to put in writing an article. I counsel picking up your local newspaper and reading a few of the articles. Emotion is not a half of journalism, or at least it ought to not be.
2. Punctuation, grammar and spelling are another major issue. The most effective method to combat this is to write your articles domestically, say in Word, before submitting them. The engineered-in spelling and grammar checkers will facilitate a lot. Do not forget to proof browse your articles several times before submitting. Look for any errors or elements that do not scan easily or the method you intended.
3. The article is one long sales pitch. Once more, journalistic principles come back into play here. If the most goal is to promote a product or service, think of yourself as a journalist who is reviewing your product. Members of the media, when reporting on a product or service, tend to try to to so from a position of impartiality. Place yourself in those shoes. You are a reporter who is simply reporting the facts per the subject matter. Opinion and emotion don't have any place here. Be totally impartial and report solely the facts. Most of the most important article bases can kick back an editorial that sounds too much like a sales pitch. I know, it has happened to me. If you expertise this, do a complete re-write following the guidelines above.
These are simply some things to be conscious of as you prepare articles for submission. The argument has been made that each one the irrelevant articles out there are ruining the intent of the sites who host them. Whereas it can hurt the cause if article submission sites get too dangerous a name, and people stop reading the content, but I don't see this happening. I like to assume that, those of us who wrote quality content can stand out. Weeding through the throngs of articles could be troublesome for users, but since most hits are via search results, the more relevant you're, the higher your odds are of being ranked over the competition. As the amount of articles continues to extend, it is more important than ever to be relevant. If you want folks to scan what you have written, you've got to square out within the crowd... for the right reasons.
