The winter season has been harsh this year. The whole of Europe has been subjected to heavy snowing, that has caused many people to miss their flights home for the holidays or to end up stranded on an airport, with no way of knowing if and when they'd be able to get back to their families. It has been a real horror for airlines as well, as they've been getting more and more complains, from passengers and family members alike, even though it's not in their humanly powers to control the weather. The only positive, if we could call it that, thing that has come out of this? Journalists and news anchors have had a blast reporting the cancellation of flights and the closing of airports, recording with their cameras the angry spills and protests of people who face the hard reality that they might not make it back for Christmas dinner.

In all this chaos, it has become apparent that people need to be showed new and effective ways to reach their family members and friends, even from the airports where they'd been “camping” for a night or two. Cellphones are good means of communication, but they cost a lot of money, especially when making international calls for minutes or hours at a time. As a result more and more people have been turning to alternative methods of communication, and we're not talking about psychics and astral projection. Let's keep it realistic, OK?

No, the best way of reaching your friends and family in those hard times lies within the use of the new and growingly more popular VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology, which allows you to make cheap international calls, using your cellphone or laptop, and provides a good calling experience even to people with little to none understanding of how VoIP technology works. After all, it is not so important to grasp the mechanisms behind the call, as to be able to take full advantage of what is offered to you, right?

Another advantage of the VoIP calls, that more and more people have started to realise, is the possibility of conferencing with two and more of your friends or family members. It is true, that organizing a conference call is a bit harder and requires a little more time and patience, which you might be running out of, being stranded in an airport and all, but if you clench your teeth and push through the first few minutes, you'd be left with very satisfying results! Besides, conference calling would be better, then giving each and everyone of your friends a separate call, right? So, save yourself the time and money, and take full advantage of what you've been offered!

Still not convinced that VoIP calls are the way to go, when outside the snow is piling and your plane is not going anywhere? Then ask yourself the following question: would it hurt to try? You're in an airport, trying to pass the time, and have nothing better to do anyway! So, why not make your best to call your family and hear their voices? After all, it's almost Christmas!

And no one should be alone on Christmas.
