1. The battery will not last 8 hours with moderate application. I switched off the optical drive, switched on the eco Mode, switched off the wireless transmitter power, and still reach most probably 4-5 hours of battery power. When I'm posting this, with the X windows app and a few Firefox windows for web browsing running, the battery displays about 4h45m leftover with 97% capacity. Probably this is because I am utilizing the wireless for Net connection instead of wired Ethernet.
2. You will find there's high frequency/pitch audio from the laptop computer. That isn't the noise of a cooling fan rotating intensely once the CPU is stressed however a low volume noise that is noticeable within the quiet environment with the computer barely working anything.
