One of the biggest strengths of Microsoft Excel is the ease in creating good looking charts for fantastic visual data representation. This articles looks at how to create a Bubble chart in Microsoft Excel and why you would choose to use one.

The bubble chart is much likened to the scatter chart or the scatter plot. However, it can be more useful when it comes to presenting data in three variables, instead of two, as used in the scatter plot.

Aside from these two specified variables, a bubble chart also gives a viewer an idea of another third variable. This is the very reason why a bubble chart is very useful when it comes to presenting data that has a requirement for the inclusion of magnitude or extent in the presentation, such as in scientific, mathematical and social data yields.

The third variable is exhibited in the size of the bubble. This is basically something that is not shown in a scatter plot, nor in a scatter chart as each plotted entity is presented in the same dot size. So for a bubble chart, one is allowed, for instance, to show the relation between the experimenter specified time interval (in the vertical axis;) the duration of the occurrence as the independent variable (in the horizontal axis;) and the degree of the occurrence in the size of the bubble.

The issue in a bubble chart however, is that it is quite intricate to plot a data-proportionate item for the third variable.  Given that an accurate presentation of the third variable, as in the size of the bubble, must have an area that is equal to the square-root of the value of the said third variable.

This is when one will need Microsoft Excel to step into the picture.

The Microsoft Excel bubble chart deals with all the hassle a user will have to undergo to come up with an accurate data presentation. While the first two variables are quite easily plotted, the value of the third variable must be calculated and measured to yield an accurate bubble size on the plot.

Microsoft Excel will do the user that huge help in the calculating and the plotting. Given that the data entered in the worksheet are correct, it will be Excel’s job to do for the bubble chart.

Data to be plotted must first of all, be organized. This will ensure an accurate future Microsoft Excel bubble chart data presentation.  Then, one will go through the process using the Microsoft Excel Bubble Chart Wizard where the specifications of the user-preferred bubble chart will be done for step-by step.

Bubble chart data presentation had never been this hassle-free and accurate. Thus, an Microsoft Excel bubble chart should be among the know-hows of anyone who does a lot of two dimensional chart presentations.
