The man and van business has exploded over the last few years, becoming a very competitive industry. Lower costs, quicker moves and multiple functions meant that a man with van companies could undercut the bigger removal companies and provide a better service. The only problem is that a lot of people noticed this and there are a small number of people who aim to cash in on it by quoting a lower price and delivering a bad service. Although the price might be attractive, here are a few things you should consider before you opt for an amateur service.

A low price could mean a number of things. It could be that the company is currently running an offer. It could be that the business is doing very well and can afford to undercut other companies. It could be that they’re a smaller business with less overhead. Just because it’s a competitive price, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are a worse business than a more expensive one. What you should be looking out for are the extreme under cutters; chances are they can undercut because they aren’t offering a particularly good service.

Amateur man and van services may not provide cover for the items that you’re moving. The benefit of a professional service is that you can be fully confident that in the rare occurrence there is damage to your items, you won’t be incurring any of the costs. Making sure the company is covered and has a good policy on breakages is just about the most important thing you should do before deciding on anyone.

A professional service should mean that you don’t have to do any of the lifting, carrying or delivering. After all, that’s what you’re paying for. Any good company will be able to tell you how many vans and how many of their removal team your move is going to require. They should have done it a million times by now, from a single sofa to a whole house, and they’ll definitely know what you require. If any company you contact isn’t clear enough on what they’re going to do or what they think they’ll need, they should probably be avoided.

Try to go on word of mouth. A good service will get mentioned all the time because people are always happy to pass on a recommendation. There are also plenty of forums, reviews and comments on various businesses on the internet, and they’re well worth checking out before you decide on any company.

At the end of the day, it really pays to put a bit of effort and a little more money into any decision you make; after all, we’re talking about YOUR possessions here. We’re confident that if you take the above steps, you will be very happy.
