Chandigarh, which is a Union Territory, is known internationally for its architecture and urban planning and is one of the most planned cities in India. It is a rare epitome of modernisation co-existing with nature's preservation.

Earlier, Chandigarh was also called 'Tri-city' because of Panchkula and Mohali as adjacent cities but with mushrooming of other towns like Zirakpur, Kharar and others with considerable population it is now known as 'Chandigarh Capital Region'.
