Chandigarh city serves as the capital of two states, Punjab and Haryana. The name of the city was coined from an ancient temple called Chandi Mandir.
Chandigarh, which is a Union
Territory, is known internationally for its architecture and urban planning and
is one of the most planned cities in India.
It is a rare epitome of modernisation
co-existing with nature's preservation.
Earlier, Chandigarh was also called 'Tri-city' because of
Panchkula
and Mohali
as adjacent cities but with mushrooming of other towns like Zirakpur,
Kharar
and others with considerable population it is now known as 'Chandigarh Capital
Region'. The city has also
become an exotic tourist spot. Several buildings and layouts in Chandigarh were
designed by the French architect and urban planner, Le Corbusier,
in the 1950s. Chandigarh is mostly influenced by
Punjabi culture, followed by Haryanvi, Himachali, UP and Bihar.
One can certainly not sideline Chandigarh
news. The city became the first
Indian city to go smoke-free on July 15, 2007. At that time, smoking at public
places was strictly prohibited and considered as a punishable act by Chandigarh
Administration. Later, complete ban on polythene bags came into effect from
October 2, 2008.
Now, Chandigarh news is no
more meant for its local readers only. It has become a city of prime concern
worldwide. Interestingly, recently Chandigarh
news splashed in the media, when over a dozen of miscreants in police uniforms
looted jewellery worth Rs 10 crore from a Tanishq showroom in Manimajra town. The city often finds its place in Hindi newspapers and other news
medium as well. Chandigarh

and Amar Ujala. Chandigarh Hindi news contains more and more city-based
stories. Chandigarh

national, international, business, sports, entertainment,
education, weather and all other relevant sections.
Today, every informed person wants to be
aware of the latest happenings of the Chandigarh
