Affiliate marketing 101 - How to stay away from the scams

These days, most people have just about had it with their current jobs.  They don't get paid enough and they work so much that they can never spend time with their family.  Because of this, many of them have a desire to start their own business.  However, most people think it's way too expensive to start their own business so they continue to work at a job that they hate.  But little do they know that the Internet provides the perfect opportunity for anyone to start their own business without spending any.  And that opportunity is called affiliate marketing.  With affiliate marketing you can work for yourself without a ton of risks.

But I must warn you, you must be very careful when getting started.  There are a lot of scammers out there just waiting to take advantage of you.  They will promise you big money without you having to do any work.  Of course, you are too smart to think that you can make any money without doing any work. With this article I want to show you a few things to look out for to make sure you stay away from the scams.

Always keep in mind that when you join an affiliate program you must sell something.  This could either be a product or service, but you must be selling something.  I say this because many times you will see opportunities advertising that you can make millions of dollars quickly.  But when you look closely at the fine print, you'll see that you will be selling the opportunity to make money, and not a product or service.

This is not the type of opportunity you want to get involved in. More than likely this is a pyramid scheme.  You can't create any long-term income with this type of opportunity. Usually, only the people at the top are the ones who will make all the money because they are the ones who started the program.  Everyone else will just lose their investment.

Another thing to watch out for is affiliate programs that make you pay to participate.  If you have to pay to join, then you don't want to be a part of that program.  A real affiliate program is free to join.  That is part of what makes the whole opportunity so attractive.  You can get started without spending any money.  Some of the best affiliate networks include clickbank, commission junction, linkshare and share a sale.  Sign up and you can start promoting products immediately.

If you truly want to be your own boss and start your own business, affiliate marketing is the way to go.  The amount of money you can make is unbelievable. Just make sure you do your research before you get started.  That way you can be sure to avoid any scams and you won't waste any of your hard earned money.
