Greek islands holidays offer a slow, beautiful way of life – full of sun, sea and amazing food. To experience the true flavour of the country, taking the holiday in a chartered yacht is the best option ever.
Blue water, so clear it is like glass, and your boat floats
on a world of glass, suspended above the white sand. Colourful creatures of the
deep sea move beneath the boat and the sand seems to be the surface of the
earth, far below. That’s a little taste of the kind of thing that Greek islands holidays let you in for,
when you take them as sailing holidays.
The fresh air, the salt spray and the incredible surroundings can become even
better if you get to experience all of this from the comfort of your own hired
yacht.
When you choose to take a yacht based holiday around
the Greek Islands, you have three basic options. Option one, which is for the ones
who wish to lay back and enjoy (depends on your point of view) – get a full
skippered and crewed boat and lie around for two weeks soaking up in the sun,
drinking, resting and wishing you could play the guitar. Heaven. Greek islands holidays in the true
Aegean style – seen with as little effort as possible and with a glass of
something strong at hand.
Option two is to get yourself a yacht that has a
skipper but no crew. This is an exhilarating class of sailing holidays, perfect for the mildly adventurous. You are the
crew – you follow orders, you get yelled at a bit, and you come home two weeks
later convinced not only that the Greek Islands are the most beautiful place on
earth, but that you are one sea shanty away from being Blackbeard himself.
Option three will take you to the Greek islands holidays where you are skipper and crew. You actually
need yachting qualifications to do this, so if you don’t have them don’t
bother. Get a skipper or a skipper and crew - and enjoy. If you have a
skipper’s ticket, though, you can take the helm of a hire yacht and start your
Greek sailing holidays in style – face to the wind and your admiring family on
deck.
However
you choose to do it – and you can stay on land or on the boats – sailing around
the Greek Islands, dipping into secluded coves for lunch, weighing anchor and
grilling fish while the sun goes down, will take you back to another time, a
slower and better time when all the hustle and bustle of modern life was so
much science fiction. Greek islands
holidays give you a chance to delve into the soul and character of the
place that birthed modern art, philosophy, drama – the sun drenched, olive
soaked land where the first gods ruled from Mount Olympus. There are sailing holidays all over the world,
but none that will make you fall in love with somewhere as hard as the Greek
holidays surrounded by the Aegean Sea. Early bookings will be starting around
March – so if this sounds like your thing, start thinking about when you would
like to cast off!
