Does The U.S. Have Double Standards

It looks as if the us govt. is trying to get one of our citzens released from custody in Lahore Pakistan. His name is Raymond Davis who is a former US Army officer and a defense
contractor.

The Dunya News reported that Davis who worked for the US Army as a firing instructor shot and killed to people at Mazand Chowk in Lahore on the 27th of January.

Although US claims him to have diplomatic immunities accouding to sources Davis; name was not included in the list of diplomatic and non diplomatic officers that was received by the Pakistan Foreign Ministry on the 25th of January for the issuance of Identification Cards.

The US Embassy is also noted as requesting repeatedly for the immediate release of Davis citing the he has been unlawfully detained by the authorities in Lahore.

After being detained the diplomat identified himself as such to the police and requested repeatedly immunity under the Vienna Convention on Dilomatic Relations. The US Embassay states that the local police and other senior authorities failed to observe their legal ovligation to verify his status with neither the US Consulate General in Lahore or the US Embassy in Islamabad.

What we do know is there were 2 people killed and the individual responsible is in custody. The US position is not that he didn't do it, or that there is no evidence that he didn't do it. The position is that he is a diplomat and should be given immunity as a diplomat.

The irony is they are holding a Foriegn Diplomat on trumped up charges and no evidence that proves him guilty. When jurisdiction of the US government was raised they ignored that fact. Now they expect a Foriegn government to afford one of our citizens the very same right that they are defiantly denying a diplomat from another country.

When you use double standards as the norm eventually it will come back and expose your hypocrisy. If you expect others to honor the international laws of the Vienna Convention you must do the same.
