With Super Bowl 45 betting lines coming to a close last night, it is time to look ahead and create new expectations. In less than nine months, football betting handicappers will be front and center again, as the NFL returns for a 46th season. Just in case the NFL and the players union rip us all off by having a labour dispute, here are some potential Super Bowl finals matchups we would like to see.

1.      New England Patriots vs. New York Giants II – During the 2007 to 2008 NFL season, no team was better than the New England Patriots, until the Super Bowl that season. That year, the Patriots led by current league MVP Tom Brady, were ousted by Eli Manning and the New York Giants on some last minute heroics by the Giants offense. In the four years since that encounter, the Patriots haven’t been able to get the job done in the playoffs. If they could capture their fourth Super Bowl of the 2000s and do so against the team that set the downward spiral in motion that would go a long way at silencing the critics.

2.      Baltimore Ravens vs. San Francisco 49ers – Also known as the brother’s bowl, this game would feature the Harbaugh brothers, Jim and John facing off. Jim has been the Head Coach of the Ravens for the last number of years, but has continuously allowed the team to fall short. Meanwhile, John Harbaugh just got a job with the 49ers, and if he can turn them around the same way he did Stanford, the 49ers may be hoisting a Super Bowl sooner than later.

3.      Cincinnati Bengals vs. San Francisco 49ers – With everything in today’s society seemingly going back to the 1980s, what better way to cap off the trend, than to see these two teams battle it out for Super Bowl supremacy. Alright, so Carson Palmer vs. Alex Smith doesn’t have the same sort of ring as Boomer Esiason vs. Joe Montana, however, this game would see two struggling franchises finally get over the hump.
