What is master.mdf database? -The master.mdf database stores all the system-level information for SQL Server system. This includes data about data (Meta data) such as log on accounts, endpoints, linked servers, and system configuration settings. Master.mdf is also a database that records the existence of all other databases and the location of those database files and records the start up information of SQL Server. Therefore, SQL Server cannot start if the master.mdf is unavailable or corrupted.
