Organizing and setting Outlook PST file does not require extra efforts. Simply, select option of File/Data File Management. It is recommended to make use of a third party Outlook PST repair tool to repair PST file.

With respect to the above issue, let's consider a realistic situation. Suppose you use MS-Outlook 2007 in office. You perform all the official work only through this utility. You receive every information related to your business in this mail account. One day, when you make an attempt to open MS-Outlook, you encounter a problem while opening a file. You fail to open it and when you try to access its settings, it displays an error message for you:

An unknown error occurred, error code: 0x80040116”

Data of all the important mails cannot be accessed after receiving this error message.

Cause:

  • Above error is caused because PST file profile of Microsoft Outlook has been damaged. The reason might be upgrading of the Office Outlook application or of Windows operating system. Since the upgrading process makes Outlook profile corrupt or destroyed because of incompatibility, the error flashes.

  • Another reason may be that the PST file itself has gotten corrupted.

Solution:

To troubleshoot the above problem you need to follow some measures. These measures are discussed below in an absolute manner:

  • Make a new Outlook mail profile. If new profile starts working properly, then you are able to access the settings of new Outlook PST file. Attach prior existing Outlook PST file with it. If problem gets solved, then it is fine. Otherwise, follow the next measure.

  • Use the inbuilt Inbox repair tool to repair PST file. Some steps must be followed to repair.

1. Select Start -> Find or Search.

2. Enter scanpst.exe in the Search for files or folders named box.
