The best way to learn to BMX is to simply buy yourself a cheap BMX, get out there and start practicing. The benefit in buying a cheap BMX is that doing so doesn’t mean you will necessarily have to sell it and upgrade as soon as you get to grips with it, but instead, since they are so versatile you can simply buy new parts over time and create a great bike that is perfect for what you want to achieve.

To get the most out of your new sport, getting in touch with others who already ride will be a huge benefit as they will be able to offer tips, show tricks and generally indoctrinate you in all the important aspects of riding and performing stunts.

There are also plenty of online tutorials, and even certain sites that sell the bikes may be able to help you on your way. At www.bmx.co.uk for instance, if you place an order, they will send you a free ‘HOW TO’ DVD that gives expert advice on everything from putting your bike together to performing bunny hops and grinds.

Like with most things, you are not going to be an expert straight away, but the bonus is that you will quickly find that you can control the bike well and perform simple tricks. The rate of improvement is usually vast, at all levels, which means you can find yourself feeling much better about your progress than with other hobbies where the rate of advancement is much slower.

So if you want to learn to ride a BMX and do all the stunts that can come with it, the best way is to jump in at the deep end. But it doesn’t help to have the right tools around you to help you swim as best as you possibly can.
