If you've got a wealth of money then you can shop to your heart's content. If you are like the vast majority of the population then every penny that you save could help towards something else! As the old adage goes, 'save the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.'
So, what do you do if you want to continue purchasing new items for your home and wardrobe etc? You have to learn to shop-smart! Follow these shopping rules so that you too can be an intelligent shopper!
At the cash point
Before you hand over the cash or your credit card, just ask yourself, do you actually need to buy this item? And will it actually be useful? It's very easy to spend money without realising it, particulalrly when you are putting everything onto a credit card. Just seriously ask yourself whether you could reuse something at home, or if you'll actually wear that dress more than once. If you don't need it, don't buy it.
Get a bargain
If you've decided that you certainly do need a particular item, then you should find it for the cheapest possible price, without compromising on quality. Consider looking in a variety of shops for that item as some may be offering discounts or benefits purchasing from them, for example purchasing the same item from Tesco will give you with clubcard points.
Don't forget you can also search for items easily online. Just enter the product code or description and you'll be able to search online to see which companie sell the product, and who offers it for the cheapest price. If you're a confident online shopper then you can consider Ebay or other personal sellers.
When you get home
It's all too easy to get caught up in the moment and thrill of buying a product. If you've bought something but once you get home you've changed your mind, then don't be afraid to return it. Most retailers will offer a full refund on items returned within 28 days if you have a receipt, or offer vouchers if you don't have a receipt. Over 28 days you can return items and get a refund if the item is faulty.
If you're purchasing from personal sellers, your rights to a refund are limited to if the item is misold or faulty, so bear this in mind if you're using Ebay or similar sites.
