The importance of living properly to influence our unsaved friends and relatives to a relationship with Jesus.
Your prayers are not going to save them. It is their decision to repent from their sins and to accept Jesus as their Lord & Saviour that will save them.
Does this mean that if your brother is an atheist, you should not pray for his salvation?
You don't have to pray. God cares for him so much that He doesn't have to be reminded all the time.
But you can pray. Not because "It lays its hand on Almighty God and moves Him to do what He would not otherwise do if prayer was not offered" as someone put it.
To think that if we don't pray, God will not act and our relatives will to go to hell is like making God to appear like someone who doesn't care.
God doesn't fold His hands saying, "I'm not going to do anything till you fellas pray!"
He can use a sickness or an accident to bring people to repentance even if a believing family member has not offered a prayer.
There are so many orphans in this world. Who prays for them?
So what does your prayer actually do? It softens the heart of the person who knows that you care for him enough to make time to pray for him.
God (a large hearted and merciful person that He is) gives a person many chances to repent during his time here on earth.
People who go to hell are those who choose not to listen to the Holy Spirit when they are convicted of their sins.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you aren't a stumbling block for an unbeliever.
One reason people don't go to church is because our services are so boring. Another reason is because we are hypocrites.
