A short Christmas story

They are a band of brothers that I always looked up to. From my tree house, I could see them playing  with their  instruments every day. Mark, the eldest, plays the guitar. Trevor, the second, plays the piano, Steve, the third, plays the drums and Bob, the youngest plays the lead guitar and is the vocalist as well. I envy them for it’s quite rare for brothers to share the same passion and they really have fun doing it. They are great performers and their every day performance is all excellent , but their best performance  was their Christmas tribute to their dad.

My parents were once again out on a trip on Christmas Day so I went up on my haven-tree house. As usual, I watched my favorite scene of the Johnson family Christmas night. Marcus, their dad was sitting on the couch beaming with smile as his four sons played various Christmas songs. It had been a known fact that their dad had cancer and that year was his last year. Tears welled up in my eyes thinking of my parents who were miles apart from me and even from each other. The four boys went  on rocking with more Christmas songs and their dad joined in singing and dancing with them around the Christmas tree. They played, sang and danced until the clock struck twelve o’clock. Shouts of “Merry Christmas” came out from their windows and then dead silent. Marcus fell down. All of them immediately rushed to their dad and carried him over to the sofa. Marcus was very still and I could see it from their faces that life was gone from him. I cried. It was so sad to lose somebody but it’s sadder to lose someone who is still there. At least with the Johnson family, they were able to rock around the Christmas tree as a happy family.
