Hisar city is one of the important and fast growing urban centers of Haryana. It is situated 164 kilometers northwest of Delhi on the National Highway NH10. It is one of the important cities of North India. It was founded as Hissar-e-Firoza by Firoz Shah Tughlaq

Hisar city is one of the important and fast growing urban centers of Haryana. It is situated 164 kilometers northwest of Delhi on the National Highway NH10. It is one of the important cities of North India. It was founded as Hissar-e-Firoza by Firoz Shah Tughlaq.

At present Hisar district consists of four tehsils and three Sub-tehsils. The tehsils are Hisar, Hansi, Narnaund and Adampur and sub tehsils are Barwala, Uklana and Bass.

The area has been associated with ancient Vedic culture tribes such as Bharatas, Purus, Kurus, Mujavatas and Mahavrishas. During medieval times it went through upheavals and conquests, and gained importance for its strategic location with regard to Delhi.

The city is catering to the needs of not only the population of the district but also to the population of adjoining areas of Rajasthan and Punjab.

Mirchpur village in Hisar district hit the headlines last year when some people from the dominant upper caste Jat community set fire to a row of houses belonging to Dalit families.

Interestingly, recently <a href=http://www.bhaskar.com/haryana/hisar/>Hisar news</a> splashed in the media this year also. A 70-year-old man and his 18-year-old physically-challenged daughter were killed in the April 21 arson attack and at least 18 houses were destroyed. Around 150 Dalit families were driven out of the village, about 300 km from Chandigarh, and their homes were torched.

These days, one can certainly not sideline Hisar News.
