There’s a saying that goes “be good to your gun, and it will be good to you”.

There’s a saying that goes “be good to your gun, and it will be good to you”. Proper maintenance and cleaning is essential in firearm care. With these, your gun will remain highly functional and give you years of good performance. Neglecting your gun can greatly affect its performance and decrease its lifespan.

If a gun is neglected, powder can build up and attract moisture, causing your gun to rust. This can decrease its accuracy. Likewise, metal fragments tend to build up in the gun’s barrel each time the gun is fired, which also can decrease its accuracy. Buying a good cleaning kit is a good first step in gun care, and cleaning your gun can easily remedies the problem of powder and metal buildup.

Preventive measures are the best way to take care of moisture buildup. Moisture is a notorious cause for rusting, and it can start the rusting process in an instant. If you’ve been firing your gun out in the cold, moist air, quickly dry your gun after. A neglected gun will show signs of aging and a lower level of performance.

Cleaning your gun’s barrel won’t take too much time. Take a brush and dip it into the cleaning solvent. Next, get a cleaning rod, insert a cloth cleaning patch, apply some cleaning solvent and clean the gun’s barrel. Remove the patch and clean it with a new rag, and repeat the process until you get a clean patch out of the barrel’s end. Once that’s done, apply lubricating oil to make sure the gun’s parts are working smoothly. Applying a good coating protective solution will provide lubricity and corrosion resistance to your gun.

Preventing corrosion is a lot easier than treating it. If ever you’re planning to do some shooting in the snow or after a day of hunting, apply coating gun solutions to your firearm to prevent rusting and scratching. This won’t just drive the moisture out; it will also add a level of resistance and durability to your gun. Upon applying the solution, dry your guns with a clean cloth to completely remove the moisture.

Applying coating protective solutions prolongs the life of your guns and helps in maintaining their performance. Proper maintenance and storage are essential to improve its lifespan. Finally, don’t forget to use your gun responsibly.
