Gun owners all around the world take loads of care for their precious boom-stick.

Gun owners all around the world take loads of care for their precious boom-stick. They don’t take repair and restoration lightly. If you own a gun and you don’t know the proper methods of cleaning and maintenance, the process can be very expensive and challenging. Here’s a short guide to help you do them.

Mounting a gun’s scope can look like a daunting task. If mounting isn’t done properly, your gun’s accuracy can become greatly compromised. Most guns come with holes to mount the scope on. If they don’t, you can drill holes to mount the scope. Once attached and aligned, the mounts should lie alongside the scope to prevent any recoil when firing.

Next is bluing your gun. Bluing is an effective way of dressing up your gun, improving its value, and protecting it from corrosion. Wear a pair of latex or rubber gloves, make sure the gun is empty, then disassemble it. Remove the old bluing with wet sandpaper and remove rust with a CLP (cleaning, lubricating, and protection) solution. Next, use acetone to remove grease from your gun.

For treating damaged and worn areas, use a cue tip to spot blue certain areas, evenly applying the bluing solution. Never use the same cue tip or cotton ball twice. Take note that each coat has a certain effect. The darker your gun gets, the less effect a certain coat has. Once satisfied, feel free to apply gun kote finish to improve your gun’s durability and corrosion resistance.

Once you’re happy with your gun’s bluing and finish, lubricate the gun with gun oil and don’t use any water to rinse the chemicals off. Instead, remove the oil and re-apply a fresh batch with clean cotton balls, and repeat the process three times for twelve hours. This will give your gun a better finish. Again, apply gun kote after this to increase your gun’s resistance to various elements.

Gun kote is a very effective tool in maintaining your gun. It gives your gun spectacular rust and corrosion protection and resistance to various chemicals and elements. It helps dissipate heat by keeping the parts cool. Be sure to follow the instructions on the owner’s manual. Never attempt to upgrade your gun, as this can cause damage to your gun and harm to yourself as well.
