The transportation of goods is the final phase of manufacturing. At this stage, finished products are packed and strapped into pallets to be trucked to airports or harbors. Stretch is another vital property that the material must possess. A steel strap must have a high limit for elongation. It needs to sustain the pressure exerted by large volumes of product after it is locked tight with steel strapping seals. Stretch efficiency is measured by the volume a standard length of steel can hold without breaking.

After stretching to a certain length or width, the steel strap must be able to go back to its original form. The metal must be able to maintain tension after stretching; as it tries to return to its normal size, the force exerted is how it grips the product. This is a property commonly called suppleness.
