The transportation
of goods is the final phase of manufacturing. At this stage, finished products
are packed and strapped into pallets to be trucked to airports or harbors. They
are then hoisted en mass onto the cargo bays of planes and ships. Such
procedures expose the merchandise to extreme tension from excessive movement
and weight redistribution. Strapping is very important because it absorbs all the
stress exerted during transit. Selecting the best banding material must be
prioritized to keep the delivery from getting damaged.
There is
no doubt that steel is the strongest type of strapping for heavy duty
applications. Its performance surpasses any other option. Because of its many notable
and excellent characteristics, manufacturing companies choose to use it for the
transportation of all massive items. There is no alternative yet invented that
has equaled its capabilities at a cheaper cost.
The
performance of steel strapping is based on four major properties: strength,
stretch, suppleness and flatness of the strip. Strength is measured by how well
the band performs under different loads. It has to be able to carry various
combinations of both size and weight without any sign of breakage.
Stretch is
another vital property that the material must possess. A steel strap must have
a high limit for elongation. It needs to sustain the pressure exerted by large
volumes of product after it is locked tight with steel
strapping seals. Stretch
efficiency is measured by the volume a standard length of steel can hold
without breaking.
After
stretching to a certain length or width, the steel strap must be able to go
back to its original form. The metal must be able to maintain tension after
stretching; as it tries to return to its normal size, the force exerted is how
it grips the product. This is a property commonly called suppleness. Steel strapping suppliers usually offer high-flexibility variants
for extreme situations.
Flatness is also very
important. It is responsible for uniformly distributing the tension in the
product throughout the network of wrapped straps. The best steel strapping suppliers only offer flat, high
tensile strength bands. How flush a strap is reflects the quality of its
manufacturer.
