Mickey Avalon had bought pot (with his mother), been hooked on heroin and dope, worked as a graffiti artist in L.A., transformed to Orthodox Judaism (his folks had been each non-practicing Jews, and his paternal grandparents have been survivors of Auschwitz), were given married and had a daughter, prostituted himself for drug money, watched his father die, and located his sister's lifeless body. All of this gave ample subject matter for his rhymes, which he began writing after his pal, the former MTV VJ Simon Rex, encouraged him to compose his own songs.

Avalon, Rex (who rapped under the title Dirt Nasty), and Armen Melik (aka Andre Legacy) began recording and releasing their own subject material as the Dyslexic Speedreaders, an irreverent workforce that gave a satirical and steadily lascivious look into the L.A. membership and drug culture. Avalon's stage presence, which blended a kind of hyper- and continuously ambiguous sexuality similar to the trashy glam rockers of the '70s, gained the attention of DJ and aspiring supervisor Kev-E-Kev, who used to be quickly serving to Avalon hawk his self-titled CD wrapped in a newspaper promoting adult services -- at the streets.

His music, particularly the music "Jane Fonda," thanks to its appearance within the HBO collection Entourage as well its availability on his MySpace site, began gaining an audience, and in 2006 his album was once reissued as the primary unencumber from MySpace Records in joint collaboration with Interscope.

In 2007 Skinnie Magazine dubbed Avalon “America’s Glam Rapper,” a moniker that has caught ever since.

Avalon’s songs had been featured in a number of motion pictures and tv shows together with “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay,” and the HBO series’ “Entourage” and “Hung.” In 2009 he joined forces with Snoop Dogg, Slightly Stoopid and Stephen Marley in the much-heralded, 20-city “Blazed and Confused” tour. He is lately working on a brand new album to be released soon.
