Discusses three easy to implement tips that you should use when attempting to increase the quality of your email lists.
These days, email marketers believe that the bigger their lists are, the greater their revenue will ultimately be. I disagree with this thinking, since you must consider the quality of your leads. Having a lot of email addresses is pointless if not many people reach the end of your conversion funnel! Therefore while you are sourcing potential leads, you should aim to generate relevant leads that have a genuine interest in your goods and services.

Let's look at 3 tips that can help you generate quality leads when you are building a list.

Allow your user to understand what you do before you flash your opt-in box

Many internet marketing guru's will tell you to place your list opt-in box "above the fold" at the very top of your website since that is the immediate thing a visitor notices. While this may bump up your overall opt-ins, I have found that I receive more relevant leads if I place my opt-in box after I have engaged the visitor and explained the benefits of my products/services. Visitors that take the initiative to actually read your content and then choose to opt-in will make for stronger leads. Never forget: quality is more important than quantity.

Get users to confirm their subscription through a double opt-in system

Experts have found that users that provide their details, and then confirm their subscription through a double opt-in mechanism are typically higher quality than single opt-in leads, because they have shown initiative and interest in what you've offered. If a lead can't even be bothered confirming their subscription to your list, then chances are they won't convert anyway and therefore aren't a good addition to your list.

Let users refer their friends and family members

Word of mouth from someone you know and trust is said to be the best form of advertising. Once someone has joined your newsletter, you should give them an opportunity to tell their friends about it. Users are unlikely to tell their friends and families about something that they aren't interested in, therefore a "Share via Email" scheme generally ensures high quality leads.

Everybody should implement these 3 simple strategies in order to prevent a low-quality list. Remember that quality is the name of the game!
