I and my friend Kristina had been
friends for a very long time and it was no surprise to me when she asked me to
be her bride's maid. The wedding was in St. Louis since her husband's family
lives there and as far as cities goes it's not the most convenient to get around.
So I thought it would be easy if I plugged the church's address in to my GPS
then this shouldn't be a problem.
I left my hotel an hour and half early which should have been plenty of time to
make it there. I turned the radio on and continued to drive with no more
worries as I continued down the highway. The GPS shouted out every turn I
needed to take and I was doing just fine up until an ad for a fireworks stand
came on the radio.
Now all I heard was turn right at exit 235 and I assumed this was where my next
turn was. I continued going straight for about ten miles when I realized that
the church couldn't be out in the middle of nowhere. Now I should have realized
when I was passing corn field after corn field this could possibly be the wrong
location. Then again I thought that this could be one of those small country
church services.
So Kristina calls me and says," Hey where are you at? You only have forty
five minutes to get your hair done and in your dress?"
" Yeah, I am almost there just give me a few more minutes so I can find
the black top it's on," I said as I continued down the long hilly road.
"Umm, Cheryl, the church isn't anywhere near a black top. It's right off
of King's Highway where are you?" she said with a concerned voice as I
pulled over to the side of the road.
"I am like fifteen miles outside of Wentzville like you said," I
started to cry and so hard on the side of the deserted road.
"Don't worry Cheryl. Stay where you're at and I will have his parents come
and find you ok?" she said somewhat concerned.
"Ok," I said sobbing now laying my head on my steering wheel.
Now about thirty minutes passed when a gray mini-van pulled up and honked. I
rolled down the windowed and the nice older couple said they would show me the
way to the wedding. I should have been more specific at this point and asked
what their son's name was because this caused another problem.
So I guess I wasn't the only bride's maid lost along that stretch of country
highway that day. When we pulled up to the church and I stepped out I asked who
I assumed were the grooms parents, "Ok, where's Kristina?"
"Who's Kristina?" they said looking at me confused.
"The bride, you know the girl your son is marrying?" I said as I
started another fit of tears.
Soon enough there was a phone call on their cell phone from their bride's maid.
This is when everyone got to where they were supposed to be at and everything
went off without a hitch. The moral of this story, don't trust GPS.
