Take That were one of the most popular bands of the 90s and since they reformed in 2005 they have still kept their likeability and credibility amongst fans old and young alike. The Take That members include Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald. Their style is mainly pop, rock with a few dance numbers, but they do both ballads and more upbeat tracks, so appeal to a fairly wide audience although mainly females.
The
Take That
band have had great success in the
UK with 6 albums having gone to number 1 as well as 11 singles. Most
of their other singles have landed a spot in the top 40 in the UK
charts. They have also had success in Ireland and some countries
around Europe such as Norway where Back For Good went to Number 1 and
other hit singles in Denmark and Germany. The group have been
nominated for and won many awards, such as taking the title for Best
British Single many times at the BRITS as well as Best British Live
Act, Best British Group, Mastercard Album of the Year, and Best
British Video. Other triumphs include Best Group and Best Live Act at
The MTV Europe Music Awards, and an Ivor Novello Award in 2008 for
PRS Most Performed Work, amongst many others.
The group have released
six studio albums in total, the first being in 1992 called Take That
& Party which went to Number 2 in the UK and Ireland charts,
Everything Changes in 1993 which went to Number 1, Nobody Else in
1995 which hit Number 1 again and also in Austria, Germany, Italy and
Switzerland. The next release was in 2006 and called Beautiful World
which took the Number 1 position again, followed two more top hit
albums called The Circus in 2008 and the most recent being Progress
in 2010.
Gary Barlow is the
lead vocalist within the group and also writes most of their songs.
He has even written for other artists including Will Young, Charlotte
Church and Shirley Bassey. Robbie Williams left the band in 1995 and
enjoyed a huge solo career with a total of 57 million albums sold
across the world. Some of his most popular hit singles include
Millennium, She’s The One, Eternity, Rock DJ, Somethin’ Stupid
and Radio which all went to Number One in the UK charts. He rejoined
the group in 2010 to a big hype amongst both the media and fans.
There is great enthusiasm about Take That tour 2011
in people. Jason Orange and Howard Donald both work on the dance
routines for the band as well as being vocalists. Howard sang the
lead on their song If This Is Love. Mark Owen also embarked on a solo
career when the band split and remained one of the favourites of the
group amongst their female fan base. He is also able to play the
keyboard, guitar and piano. All of the band members contribute
towards song writing at some point within their career.
