Each year from around the middle of March to the end of November, hundreds of thousands of fishing enthusiasts take to the water ways, in hopes of catching a bass. Over the last decade, more and more bass fishing enthusiasts have gone from not having a preference in which type of bass they catch, to becoming finicky about which breed they have to fish for. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the most popular breeds of black bass.

There are many different breeds of Black Bass, however, only a few are recognized by the bass fishing association, which governs game fishing for bass.

Largemouth Bass – The world record for largest Largemouth Bass, no pun intended, was 22 pounds and four ounces. Throughout the years, thanks in large part to the humans fishing for it, the Largemouth Bass has extended its habitat to all over North and Central America. For instance, the Largemouth Bass was initially located in the Eastern USA, North of Mexico and South of Canada. However, as we mentioned earlier, the Largemouth Bass has been relocated many a time. The Largemouth is the most popular species of Black Bass in the game fishing industry.

Spotted Bass – The largest Spotted Bass weighed in at over 10 pounds and four ounces. Its habitat similar to the Largemouth Bass has varied over the years. But for all intents and purposes, the most common areas to find the Spotted Bass are Mississippi, the Gulf of Mexico from Texas to Florida and can occasionally be found in the area between Georgia to Kentucky. The Spotted Bass received its name because it has spots on its stomach and teeth on its tongue.  It is the second most popular game fish in the bass fishing industry.
