Ultraviolet ray, commonly known as UV ray is set of short light rays from the sun.   This set of light rays consists of UVA, UVB and UVC.   Our eyes can hardly see the light rays.  Among the three light rays, UVB is the one that causes damage to our eyes under prolonged and intense exposure. Eye tissues such as eyelids, lens, cornea, conjunctiva and retina can all be affected. If the eyes are not being protected, one can develop sensitive and dry eyes, a disease condition called photokeratitis. {Too long of an exposure to UVB can increase the chance of having cataracts, eye degeneration and eye growths. In worst case, you can also be at risk of having cataracts, eye degeneration and eye growths.}

The best way to protect the eyes is to wear sunglasses when going out. The UV lights can be blocked y the tints of the sunglasses. There are different colors of tints available in the market but amber and brown are the most effective one. It is always good to wear sunglasses with big lenses and curvature.

UV coating can also be applied on normal lenses. Nowadays, people wear transition lens to cope with the modern hectic lifestyle. This special lens will change its color when being exposed to UV light rays.   There is no need to change from one pair of glasses to another but still enjoy the protection.

During cloudy days, you should also wear sunglasses. This is not asking you to stay trendy and cool. The UV rays are still in the atmosphere despite having no sun.

Should you want additional protection, you can consider wearing a hat with big brim to shed away the sunlight. When you are on the beach or doing sailing and fishing in the sea, this is particularly useful. These surfaces can cause a dramatic increase of UV light ray exposure.
