A personal alarm lets you sound an alert if someone is trying to harm or physically attack you. They are legal everywhere, even on airplanes.

A personal safety alarm is a small hand-held electronic device which, when activated, will emit a loud siren-like alarming sound. These alarms are similar to security alarms often utilized on the wall of a home or business, except they are not permanently attached to the wall, but may be carried with you at all times. They are usually small enough to easily fit in the hands of women and children, yet the ear piercing high pitched sound they expel is very disquieting to listen to even for a few seconds. Personal alarms can be used as a self defense alarm, distress signal or medical alert. It makes common sense for both children and adults to carry them.

Personal alarms are great when used to dissuade a possible mugger. Law enforcers, campus security and body guards readily recommend the use of a personal safety alarm because they can scare off an assailant. If you experience a situation of duress, you can use a personal alarm to grab the attention of nearby people, who can come to your aid and also act as witnesses to the crime. If you use one and the attacker retreats, then the alarm has done its job.

Personal attack alarms come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are cost effective and are a great way to draw attention to yourself when it is needed most. Some use a pin to activate the alarm, while others can also be used as a burglar alarm by hanging it on a door or window in your home or hotel room. Most top notch alarms will have the following:

*The siren discharged from a self-defense alarm needs to be as deafening and as distracting as possible. 95 to 130 decibels should be your choice.

*A panic alarm should be convenient to carry so you can quickly get at it when needed.

*An individual alarm needs to be easy to use so there is no bumbling with the gizmo to get it to work when it is most needed.

Personal alarms are the safest and an effective method of self protection during a crisis. They absolutely cannot be used against you like offensive weapons can. They require no special training or permits and can be used by anyone regardless of physical condition or age. You should carry one with you wherever you go.

Another type of personal alarm worth mentioning is the one that works as a canine or wildlife repeller. There is also a type of personal alarm that includes ultrasonic sound which will work on aggressive dogs and wild animals. Its squeal can not be heard by human ears. Take your alarm along to protect yourself from dangerous dogs while cycling, walking, or jogging. Your alarm will emit a high frequency noise the hound won't like it causing the dog to retreat leaving you alone.
