Known for its reputation as ‘the most exciting two minutes
in sports’, there’s no wonder why this year’s Kentucky Derby tickets have been
in high demand among fans and spectators. The mere thought and mention of “The Kentucky
Derby” seems to be filling people with anxiety as they anticipate a
sporting-race thriller. And it’s almost here.
Opening its doors on the first Saturday of May, the 2011
Kentucky Derby will play host to a two-week-long event full of exhilarating festivities,
historic tradition, and of course, premiere horse racing. Over 155,000 fans will
make their way down to Louisville, Kentucky to join together at the prestigious
Churchill Downs Track, in hopes of partaking in all the excitement. The event
kicks-off, with a private celebration of social mingling, leading to the start
of a hand full of races, then culminating in the one of the main attractions, the
Kentucky Oaks; Tickets offer access to all events.
The Kentucky Oaks has, over the years, built up momentum and
slowly begun to become a fan favorite. Attracting a crowd that closely rivals
the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Oaks receives nationally televised attention
and rewards a grand prize of $1.2 million. But this attributing racing
event-the Kentucky Oaks- still seems to only compliment the main spectacle held
on Saturday as crowds restlessly flock their way down to the dirt track for the
Kentucky Derby.
The Kentucky Derby, or again, ‘the fastest two minutes in
sports’ is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses. The
esteemed race circles a 1.25 mile track, in which 10 horses and jockeys try to
will their way towards reaching the end first. But as with any race, there’s
only one winner. And it just so happens that this champion receives a purse
reward of $2 million, making it the largest earning of any horse race in
existence. With its diverse spectrum of
social events, tradition, and competitive racing, the Kentucky Derby packages together
an event not worth missing.
