School security system incorporates video wall

One organisation that has started to make use of video walls is Fairfax County Public Schools in the US. It describes itself as the 11th largest school system in the country and aims to provide a diverse and high-quality curriculum for youngsters in the area.

To help ensure that the welfare of both pupils and staff is protected, it has installed a video wall in its new facility. The Security Operations Centre Office for the Safety and Security Department recently moved to a new building and took the opportunity to make the most of the technology now available.

Indeed, the standard of video capture hardware, video walls and other such things is constantly on the rise, meaning a greater number of organisations are eager to make the most of the provisions.

Security technology specialist Jack Guglielmo remarked: "We've created a window to the outside world from our command and control console to the rest of the school district. We're looking at several things from this system, including a school bus GPS system that lets us know where everyone of our 1,000 buses is."

He added that it is also possible to monitor pictures of expulsion hearings or judicial processes on the system that are supplemented by 'panic buttons'. Mr Guglielmo also pointed out that the security room has three command consoles with supervisory stations at the middle and end and there are always either two or three people working in there.

Meanwhile, he noted that the organisation was working on a tight budget when it had the technology installed.
