In summer most people can get extremely hot and very few people can get by without some form of cooling. The use of air conditioners varies enormously and depends on both climate and weather. Also, if you live in an energy efficient house, you are less likely to need or want an air conditioner. A window air conditioner can keep a room cool and humidified at the same time. The AC size depends on the size of the room intended to be cooled. Choosing the wrong unit can make an air conditioner inefficient in cooling and removing humidity from the air.

During the summer, units are expensive and have limited availability. However, if your old AC unit is broken then you have no choice. To install air-conditioning is a major purchase; hence it is worth making sure that your money is spent as wisely as possible. The best ones are efficient, operating on minimal electricity to hold utility bills down. To choose the right one, you should respect a few principles.

Air conditioners come in four main types: window units, through the wall units, portable units and whole house/central air units. Window units come in three main flavors: double-hung windows, sliding windows and casement windows. A good contractor will determine the optimum size for your home by making a careful study of your cooling requirements. The cooling capacity of a unit is measured in British Thermal Units, (BTU's). The more BTU's it has, the more space it can cool down.

You should expect the unit to have an adjustable thermostat, at least two cooling speeds, two fan speeds and an energy efficient setting, which stops the fan when the unit is not cooling. BTUs determine how much cold air comes out of the unit, but problems can occur if the air conditioner is oversized for the space. The more cold air that comes out – the more area it needs to circulate to avoid giving the thermostat a false reading. The output range you need will depend upon your particular requirements. Air conditioner outputs are measured in kilowatts (kW).

Well, the elements of choosing a right Air Conditioner include comfort level, purchase cost, running costs, noise levels, reliability, brand, location of outdoor unit and confidence in the contractor. Before you buy one, it’s necessary to search on the net and make a comparison. Once you decide to buy, make sure the installer is licensed and insured.
