Parents always got through the anxiety of wanting to give their children healthy lunches for school, at the same time providing a meal they will actually eat and not swap or throw away.

A child not eating their lunch is just as unhealthy as one who consumes junk food at school. Parents are under serious stress, but no need to worry since there are some very good lunch ideas for children at school.

Creating the right balance in your child’s nutrition helps them in being healthy and growing up. Changing things around for them is necessary, something new everyday keeps them guessing and enjoying a varying & nutritious diet.

One of the most common items in children lunchboxes are sandwiches. Ideally they should contain protein from nutrients like cheese, meat or eggs coupled with vegetables and fruits. Kids might avoid vegetables so it’s always good to use fruit instead to make the meal sweeter. Relish, salad cream and mayonnaise can also be used as flavor enhancers. Some fun ideas for sandwiches are cheddar & tomato relish, chicken with sliced tomato and onions, ham 7 tomato, egg mayo with sultanas and, chicken and pineapple chunks.

In most of the cases white bread is no good since its nutritional value is low too. To encourage kids to eat bread it’s a good idea to make snacks and meals from brown bread, or, try one white and one brown just to make things fun. Children can be encouraged by telling them brown bread is special and makes the body stronger.

When it comes to fruit the child’s reaction is similar to that of vegetables. Once they are acquainted to the taste children are more likely to eat fruit when it’s clean and chopped up, rather a whole fruit to eat on their own. For children who don’t like fruit try a mixture of grapes, blueberries, raspberries or a more traditional mix of orange, grape and apple also squirt a little lemon or grapefruit to stop it from turning brown.

For children who like small snacks there are numerous dips, sauces, crackers and vegetables that are quickly available for small snacking. Hummus with carrot sticks, tomato 7 cheese slices, nuts with dried fruit, homemade cake and root vegetable crisps instead of potato chips.

Children should be involved in making snacks and meals when at home so they know about the importance of different nutritious foods. Baking a cake, muffins, cookies and making sandwiches is a good way to involve children to learn and prepare their own lunch.
